Welcome to Horváth! A restaurant in Kreuzberg that is next to Paul-Lincke-Ufer. Horváth is a place where the past meets the present. The wooden walls make it feel warm. The big and colorful mural by artist Jim Avignon makes it special. You can even see the chefs cooking through the big glass kitchen. If you want to see how the chefs prepare the dishes, just sit at the Chef’s Table.
Though Horváth was formed in 2021, its story goes back almost a hundred years! The building has seen more action than most Berlin nightclubs. In 1973, the building became home to *Exil*. It was both a restaurant and a cultural hotspot. Austrian philosopher Oswald Wiener started it together with artist Michel Würthle. Ingrid Wiener ran the kitchen and cooked dishes that drew a famous crowd. David Bowie, Iggy Pop, Helmut Newton, and Jack Nicholson were regular visitors. Exil was part Austrian restaurant and part creative hangout. It was part Berlin party. And it was fully legendary. That is a proof that good food and great company never go out of style.
These days, Horváth keeps its roots alive but adds a fresh and modern twist. It’s a Michelin-starred spot. However, it’s not a place where you have to whisper or wear a tie. The restaurant is relaxed, welcoming, and full of good vibes. In the summer, you can sit by a table in the garden under the vines and enjoy some creative dishes.
