omfg hamlet do i look like i care reframes Shakespeare through a fresh, feminist lens. It takes the classic material of Hamlet and asks a pointed question: what would it sound like if women controlled not only the stage, but the narrative itself? The piece builds around the idea of the Bechdel Test — that benchmark for female presence and agency in fiction — and highlights how rarely Shakespeare’s works allow women to converse with each other about anything besides men. This production gives them that chance.
Two dynamic performers share the stage, morphing into queens, nobles, podcast hosts, karaoke singers, dancers, and even pro-bowlers, among other roles. They’re joined by a male actor cast deliberately in a sideline role—more as framework than central voice—flipping the usual power dynamics. What starts off as a comedic mock interview between influencers quickly unravels into something more complex: absurd, chaotic, occasionally raw, but also deeply tender in its portrayal of female experience — both the lived and the imagined.
The creative team behind the show—Kay Marie (creator, co-writer, performer), Katya Mokhort (co-writer, director), Courtney Dahl (choreography & performer), Natalia Chernova (set & costume), and Daniel Paul Carey (performer)—combine to deliver a performance that’s bold, inventive, and provocative. It’s not just revisionist in its cast and dialogue, but in its emotional spine: it doesn’t shy away from humor or heartache, from sharp satire or softer moments. This is a play that challenges assumptions, disrupts traditions, and invites us to listen differently.
